Here is a message from Starbucks: "How could they leave me in a kill shelter at the age of 12 yrs. after I gave them all my love and devotion for all those years? Because I got old and can't see as well as I used to? Because they had no time and money to groom me? Or perhaps because there was a cuter pup on their minds? Anyway, I would love to be on someone's lap or sleep in someone's bed again and I promise to be good. Give me one more chance, please. I do get along with other dogs, I give kisses, I still hear well and I still have all my teeth and I was just groomed". If you are that person to give Starbucks that one more chance on life, please call his foster mom Rosemarie at 973-865-6421

Gin Rummy is a very beautiful German Shepherd/Collie mix, 4.5 mos. old, spayed, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped. She is sweet, a little shy at first but loves the attention. To get more information on this loving young rescued pet, please contact her foster mom Diane at dfjorn@aol.com

Meet our latest darling named Rachel! A schnoodle who is just a doll - housebroken, crate trained, gets along with other dogs, kids and has never met a stranger. She is so sweet, affectionate, loves to play, a non-shedder - the perfect dog except that she is almost totally blind from mature cataracts at the age of approximately 7 years old. UPDATE! Rachel's surgery went very well and the doctor expects that she will have almost 100% vision in her left eye and about 70-80% in the right one. She will need to be on a number of medications over the next 2-4 weeks (and has to wear the dreaded "cone" on her head) and needs to rest. But all in all, the surgery was a success! The surgery was very costly so if you would like to help with this little angel's medical costs, please send your donation to Orphaned Pets, PO Box 1945, West Caldwell, NJ, 07007 and mark the envelope "Rachel". If you would like more info on Rachel, please contact her foster mom, Sharon, at SMattButler814@aol.com.

Missy is a sweet and gentle adult Schnoodle, mix of Schnauzer and Poodle. We are guessing her age at about 5 yrs. but will know better once she has a check-up at the vets this week. She is fully vetted and spayed, is looking for a calm and loving home and hopefully to lose a few pounds. If interested in adopting this loving pet, please contact Rosemarie at rdogsnpups@aol.com or call her at 973-865-6421

These pups are 8 weeks old and Aussie mixes. There are 3 boys: Miles, Mickey and Markey and 2 girls, Maggie and Mindy. Their Mom is a 30 lb, very friendly and good natured dog. She can also be seen on the website. All of the pups are friendly and current with their shots. Interested parties should call Judy at 973-429-0829.

Mattie is a young Aussie mix, blue eyes, very sweet disposition and house broken. She just finished nursing 5 cute pups and is now ready for her forever home. If interested in this beauty, please call her foster mom Judy at 973-429-0829

Georgette is a Australian Shepherd mix beauty and is about 2 yrs. old. She is great with other dogs but is hesitant to trust humans. No aggression is involved whatsoever...she just needs a home that will give her the time to "warm" up to them. She is great with children, men and women of all types. Georgette LOVES her crate (she feels the most secure there) and we are working on having her spend less time in the crate and more time out and about. This dog deserves a loving home with someone who has the time and patience to work with her. If you are interested in learning more about this sweetheart, please contact Rosemarie at rdogsnpups@aol.com.

Maggie is the largest dog in our foster care and also the sweetest. She weighs in at about 80 lbs. What more could you ask for than a loving, house broken, spayed family dog? She seems good with cats and dogs and loves people. However, she is afraid of tall men with rimmed eye glasses and a mustache!! If interested in this hairy doggie, please contact Rosemarie at 973-865-6421 or e-mail her at rdogsnpups@aol.com

There are approximately 45 cats and dogs for every person born. Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home. Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home. Approximately 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the United States, because there are not enough homes for them!
Please SPAY and NEUTER! If looking for a pet, please rescue! www.petfinder.com

If you are not sure of the things you would like to donate, please send us an email at RDogsNPups@aol.com and we will be happy to work with you!
Plastic storage containers, 10 gal - 15 gal.
Have-A-Heart trap for cats.
Dry dog food.

We are in need of trash bags...any size would be appreciated
We need pastel colored copy paper, lots of safety pins(any size), stringed tags and knitting wool

Dog and cat food! Dry food especially for adult dogs and puppies. We have many dogs and cats to feed so any new bags of food would be greatly appreciated.

We also need laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets- we have many loads of wash to do in order to clean the towels, etc. for our dogs in foster care.

Support our shelter! Buy Frontline Plus and pet medications today! Or Call 1-800-738-6337 and Mention: "Orphaned". (A referral code must be entered in order for our shelter to receive a donation).
~ TRAINING IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR DOG ~
Training can be the difference between a "good" dog and a "bad" dog. Dogs are just like children - they need love, security and guidance. They do NOT raise themselves! They have to be trained in a loving manner to exhibit appropriate behavior. Even though it will take effort on your part, you will be amazed at the results consistent training will bring. Have a training question about a dog you adopted from us? Email Sharon at AskAboutADog@aol.com. She is a canine trainer and the owner of Wag & Train who would be happy to give you guidance! Sharon also offers private training lessons for both dogs and puppies. If you would like more information, email Sharon at the above address.

Many of the Orphaned Pets, Inc. pets can be seen by appointment. Call or e-mail us today if you would like to learn more about our homeless animals. Rdogsnpups@aol.com .

If you can't give them a home, give them HOPE - Consider sponsoring a pet for $20 a month. You are welcome to visit the pet too. Many of our older/larger pets take longer to place. We cannot overlook them for the cute little puppies as they need homes too. The animals are victims. They do not wish to be in shelters. They do not wish to be euthanized. We rescue them - we never stop. When we place our homeless pets, we return to the shelters for more. .........If you would like to make a monetary donation to help with our veterinarian expenses, please send a donation to Orphaned Pets, Inc., P.O. Box 1945, West Caldwell, NJ 07007...........ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE! ... Another way to help is to donate something on our wish list - check it out - you don't have to spend a fortune and every little bit helps!

WHO ARE WE?
Orphaned Pets, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 1990 with the sole purpose of helping unwanted domestic animals find compassionate homes. We're an all volunteer, local organization. We have no shelter facility. The animals are fostered by the volunteers, in their homes, until a suitable home becomes available. We rely on donations and fund-raising activities to support our efforts to save lives. All donations are tax deductible.

Why Should You Get Your Pet From Orphaned Pets?
Great question! You have lots of options. Why choose us? Why not go right to a shelter and adopt a pet there? Going to a shelter is an excellent choice. We work with many of the area shelters. Lots of them have caring, trained staff ready and very willing to help you make a good choice.

Some people, though, aren't comfortable going into a shelter. There are lots of reasons for this, and we certainly understand. That's where we come in. We go into the shelters for you. We very carefully select dogs we feel will make the best pets. They are temperment tested and evaluated by our trainer and screened for compatibility with other animals, etc. The dogs are then taken to our veterinarian for a complete physical exam, shots, deworming (if necessary), grooming or any other care that's needed.

The dogs are then placed in the homes of our volunteers where they're fostered until they're adopted. While the dogs are in their foster homes, our volunteers work with them, teaching some basic obedience. This training might include housebreaking, leash control, basic manners, etc.

So, when you adopt one of our dogs, it probably has been in a foster home for at least several days. It's been able to begin adjusting to a home environment. Many times it's in a home with other animals so it's learned to adapt to other dogs and/or cats.

Because the dogs live with us, we can usually tell you a lot about them - are they good with children, with other animals, are they protective of their food, do they have any special needs, etc.

Please understand that we aren't competing with shelters or any other animal welfare group. We all have the same goal - finding loving homes for homeless animals. So whether you go to a shelter or come to us, we welcome you and thank you for opening your home and your heart to a needy dog (or two!).

Here's Where You Can Find Us: Because we foster all the animals in our homes, we don't have a shelter with posted hours. However, we're very active in the community. You can look for us on a rotating basis at the locations below.
  • First Saturday of the month, PETCO, 339 Pompton Avenue, Verona(Rt. 23)
  • Second Saturday of the month, PETCO, Route 10W, East Hanover
  • Third Saturday of the month, Terry's Pet Depot, 1711Route 10, Morris Plains.
  • Fourth Saturday of the month, PETCO, Route 46, Parsippany

  • (See Featured Event above for our next adoption day & location)
If you'd like to know more about the pets we currently have available for adoption - or if you'd like to volunteer with Orphaned Pets, Inc. call Rosemarie at (973)882-8363. Here's How You Can Adopt One Of Our Wonderful Pets: There are two ways to adopt: (1) Come to one of our Featured Events listed above and see the dogs and cats available that day or, (2) Call us and talk about the new family member you have in mind and we will work together to find that particular pet. We want to know about you: Adoption is a relationship and we make it our business to match people with the best pets and pets with the best people. Here are some questions we might ask to get acquainted with you and your home: Is this dog/cat for you or is it a gift? Do you currently have pet(s)? If yes, tell us about them. What are your reasons for wanting a pet? Are there children living in or visiting the house and what are their ages? Who would care for the pet? Do all family members agree about having a pet? What is the longest amount of time the pet would spend alone on average? Would this dog live inside or outside? Do you have a fenced yard? This isn't an interrogation, we just want to be sure we get the best pet for you and the best home for our pets. Our Spay/Neuter Philosophy: We support the spay/neuter policy. We see this as the only permanent solution to the stray problem. When one of our pets is adopted, the new owners qualify to have their pet spayed/neutered for just $20 through the state funded spay/neuter program. As part of our agreement, all new pet owners must agree to spay/neuter their pet within the time limit noted on the adoption contract. (Most of our pets are already spayed/neutered) Here Are The Services We Offer You:
  • Promote Spay/neuter through State funded program
  • Provide preliminary veterinary care (physical exam, vaccinations, evaluation, etc.)
  • When possible will help with boarding or temporary care
  • Answer your pet care questions
  • Provide continuing, lifetime support for the new owners of our pets
Take the Pledge:
The adoption process is formalized by a contract and we ask for a donation at that time. You must agree to the following terms: to spay/neuter within the time period specified on your contract (your contract is your enrollment in the state funded $20 neuter program) You agree the animal is intended as a household pet and that you promise to provide humane care, proper food, water, shelter and veterinary care necessary at all times. You agree the animal is never to be used for the purpose of laboratory experimentation and the pet will never be abandoned.
Here's What You Can Do Right Now:
We'd love to hear from you. Call us at any time to talk. Whether you're interested in a pet right now, are thinking of getting a pet in the future, would like to volunteer or just want to have your questions answered, call Rosemarie at (973)882-8363. We're very friendly, we love animals and we'd be happy to hear from you.
Can't Adopt One Of Our Dogs, But You Still Want To Help? Here's What You Can Do:
1) Probably one of the best things you can do to help our dogs is to let other people know about us. Tell them they can get to this page simply by going to: http://www.op.petfinder.org That will bring them directly to this page. Then, they can look at our dogs at their leisure.
2) If you see a pet you think may be of interest to a friend or co-worker, print out that dog's description page. Give it to your friend. Or post it at work. Or email the dog's profile directly to the person. Lots of wonderful people post flyers at work and help us spread the word...and find great homes.

3) Donate, donate, donate. We can use your time, your money, your dog toys/food/supplies or just about anything else you'd be kind enough to give us. Not sure what we need? Just ask. We're always happy to talk about that!

"Guide dogs for the blind, hearing dogs for the deaf, dog companions for those that live alone...Dogs who comfort the sick and elderly and befriend lonely children. All over the world there are hundreds of thousands of these faithful animals serving us with their love." ~ J.R.E. ~

~

Please speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. If you see an animal in need and don't know what to do, call your local Animal Control. If you don't know their number - call your police!

~ Spay and neuter your pets. It is the only way we can prevent the mass euthanasia of homeless animals. For every puppy/kitten that is born, it is one less animal that will be adopted from a shelter. ~ Look at our Pet List. Many of the animals listed were abandoned by their owners. When you own an animal, it is a lifetime commitment. Cherish them. No human will ever love you more.
